THEME OF THE 7TH GC
The theme of the 7th GC is "The Mission of the Sangha Youth in the New
Era -- Long-Term Conservation of Human and Natural Ecosystems"
During the Neolithic Period about 10,000 years ago,
humans started to use not only stone tools, but also began pasturing and farming as new forms of economic activities. Other
than artificial seeding, nurturing, and storing the plants, they tamed wild animals to farm and breed. That was the beginning
of the first industrial revolution in human history. Compare to food source that used to be under the influence of natural
climatic conditions, humans’ life functions started to have great changes when they could have control over their economic
system. In other words, humans became active producers of their foods, not just relying upon mother earth passively. It means
that human beings had broken the restrictions of nature to a certain level.
From another perspective, since the
food resources had become stable and sufficient, the living habit had changed from migration to permanent settlement. In the
spare time, people spent their efforts on exploring and improving new techniques such as ceramics and weaving. Such improvements
in human life and the constant development of cultural industries gradually evolved into the world’s great ancient cultures.
Up to the present, great economic over-development has brought human beings abundance of food and material resources; however,
the concept of savings and the encouragement of economic growth had led to a “global confusion in value systems,”
“corruption of the human mind,” “decline of ethical values,” and “power corruption.”
With such issues in mind, as members of the Buddhist Sangha in the new era:
How
should we deal with issues related to conserve long-term global human and natural ecosystems?
What
kind of mission and responsibilities we need to consider in this fast changing society?
What
should we reconsider when investigating Buddhist practice in this new era?
How should we revive
our true nature from the sickened mind?
How should we heal our wounded heart and manage our
anger through practice?
These questions are the topics for the new era’s Sangha youth
to reconsider.

】
Here we are, sharing our lives We made it through the good and bad
times And still we stand with hope in our hearts No matter what, we will play our part And now we've come so
far, one chance to touch a star Go higher and higher
Find your guiding inspiration, In a place where
dreams are made With a lifetime's preparation, it's no time to be afraid Put our differences behind us, while
we shine like the sun See what we've all become, together we are one
Deep inside your heart and soul You've worked so hard, to reach your goal With every step, with every breath You gave it all, till there was
nothing left Seek out the strength to win, no thoughts of giving in Go higher and higher
Find your
guiding inspiration In a place where dreams are made With a lifetime's preparation It's no time to be afraid
Put our differences behind us While we shine like the sun See what we've all become Together we are
one.
